Description
This day starts as every other day with the exception that you will wake up to embrace one of the most magical and mystic days of your life. By the end of the day you will wonder why people are not calling you “your highness”.
Our itinerary begins with a visit to one of the most beautiful places in Portugal - Sintra and the Pena Palace. Considered to be one of the ex- libris and wonders of Portugal, it was visited by the famous compositor Richard Strauss who said: “ …Today is the most beautiful day of my life. I’ve been in Italy, Greece and Egypt and this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, this is the true garden of Klingsor and right there on the top is the castle of Holy Grail…”
We will then descend to the village for a deserved lunch break where you will have time for a short walk to enjoy the views of old houses, now converted in small quaint handicraft shops and traditional pastry shops.
Quinta da Regaleira was built in the last years of monarchy and its romantic surroundings are classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Regaleira is an eccentrically decorated palace and gardens replete with grottoes, fountains, underground tunnels, caves, and numerous statues. This is a place to be felt and where you can let go and dream through its mystic and mist, please note that this Palace is on request.
After this is time for us get back on the road and head to Cabo da Roca to visit the most western point of Europe, a place where you will experience the true power of sightseeing. And since it is time to head back to Lisbon, we are going to take a drive along one of the most beautiful roads in our beloved country the “Marginal” passing by Cascais, Estoril heading back to Lisbon with some supreise stops on our way.
Notes
In the case you rather visit other parks and palaces that are also amazing and truly beautiful, just let us know we will make a custom tailor a tour for you. Here are some other suggestions:
Sintra Moorish Castle (fortress from the 9th century, constructed by the Moors, during their occupation period. Due to its location allows magnificent views over the town of Sintra.
Convent of Capuchos - This convent was built among the trees and the great blocks of granite, which are part of the building itself. Founded in 1560, the small cells, the cork-coating on doors, are proof of the Faith and humbleness of those who lived there.
Monserrate Park and palace - The notable romantic garden of a millionaire Englishman. An exuberant garden and Palace, built by the millionaire Englishman Francis Cook it is a unique testimony to the eclectic spirit of the eighteen hundreds. In the strongly English inspired Park, the Palace blends in with one of the richest botanical gardens in Portugal. Stroll among exotic trees, waterfalls and lakes to discover this unique Park.
